Tasmania’s North West Coast
The wild northern region
Tasmania’s North West Coast, with its long maritime history, is populated with port cities and seaside villages. With it’s gorgeous coastlines and rugged wilderness, the North West is a must-visit for the explorer type. With its ethereal rainforests and ancient caves, there is so much to discover.
Follow the Tasting Trail, curated to include just over 40 artisanal producers and a stop every 6 kilometres. Be it truffles, honey, craft beer, oysters or gelati, you can taste your way across the region, with the people and their stories just as bountiful as their produce.
If you enjoy driving a way out, you can visit the charming town of Stanley and the famous Nut – an ancient volcanic plug that presides over the village. Or, venture to the Tarkine Drive and follow the 125-kilometre stretch of road that pulls you through one of the last cool-temperate rainforests.
Whether you prefer to take things slow and deeply breathe the pure air of this region, or get amongst as much action as possible, there is something for everyone. Just make sure you have access to a car to maximise your adventure time in this unmatched part of the world.
